Space Time Research Collective Activity Report and Budget—Fall 2021

he Spacetime Research Collective (STRC) is an interdisciplinary collaborative student organization whose primary purpose is to foster an intellectual and social community of scholars who explore the intersectional social construction of space, place, time, culture, society, power and politics. We offer space for those working in various disciplines to collaboratively engage in non-competitive and non-monetized forms of creative production, as well as support each other in various aspects of personal professional development. EVENTS and PROJECTS: Together we draft and publish writing, create pedagogy, apply for grants, and offer mutual intellectual support and resources. Group meetings feature a broad range of debates and discussions to address various aspects of interdisciplinary and collaborative work. We also organize lectures and conferences where we read and discuss prominent scholarly work with academics in our fields; we host occasional events such as film screenings, potlucks, and parties; and we organize an annual mini-conference in which members present work and provide feedback to each other. Beyond the clear academic benefits, these events have a strong social component. MEMBERSHIP: We are open to all Graduate Center students and welcome participation from other CUNY graduate students. Our fields of study are interdisciplinary, including but not limited to Sociology; Critical Geography, Anthropology; Urban Studies; Urban Education; Philosophy, Cultural Studies, and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies. CO-CHAIRS: Annually, students who are either selected or who volunteer will take on the administrative and mediating responsibilities associated with running the group. There are no formal elections, and general consensus is necessary for most decisions. Co-Chairs will share the responsibilities of scheduling and running meetings, organizing events, applying for funding, and making sure the charter is renewed annually.
