Arab Crossroads
I-Statement of Purpose:
Arab Crossroads is an interdisciplinary platform for exposure to and discussion of cultural, artistic, and musical production from majority Arabic-speaking countries. It seeks to build a bridge between the academic community at CUNY and the broader cultural, artistic, and musical community in the New York area.

II-Constitution:
Mission:
Arab Crossroads is an interdisciplinary platform for exposure to and discussion of cultural, artistic, and musical production from majority Arabic-speaking countries. It seeks to connect CUNY students, artists, musicians, poets, and others who are engaged in creative enterprises and whose work relates to the Arab world.
Our purpose is to introduce members of the CUNY community to Arabic music, culture, film, and literature and to organize gatherings and events at the intersection of the artistic and cultural fields on the one hand and the academic domain on the other; to welcome new students and artists who work in/amongst Arabic-speaking countries and/or communities; and to facilitate networking among the Graduate Center community and the broader cultural, artistic and musical community in the New York area.

Events:
There will be regular gatherings and events for students to socialize and to discuss and learn about Arabic culture, music, film, and literature. In addition to that, special events will be organized featuring cultural and educational activities like cooking nights that gives members an opportunity to taste traditional Arabic food, or dance and musical nights when members could enjoy learning various dances prevalent in the Arab world, such as Dabke, or listen to live or recorded Arabic music.

Membership:
The group is open to the entire Graduate Center community and to students, faculty, and staff of other CUNY colleges as well as of other institutions. Voting membership shall be restricted to matriculated students at the Graduate Center. The group warmly welcomes the participation of members unfamiliar with Arab culture. The official language of the group is English. Arabic may occasionally be used for convenience during meetings or for educational purposes. There shall be no membership dues. The group’s regular means of support are DSC funds. The co-chairs might decide to seek voluntary donations from members for special events for which adequate funding couldn’t be raised. Participation in any event is optional.

Governance:
Every academic year, elections will be held for no more than 2 Co-Chairs. Voting members may nominate themselves or other voting members. In addition to functioning as the official contact people to the Doctoral Students’ Council Co‐Chair for Student Affairs, Co‐Chairs share the following responsibilities: maintaining the group’s property; scheduling and running meetings, organizing events, and applying for funding; notifying the Co-Chair of Student Affairs of group status changes and submitting an activity report and the most recent version of the constitution, and membership information to the Co‐Chair for Student Affairs at the end of each semester.

Description:
Arab Crossroads is an interdisciplinary platform for exposure to and discussion of cultural, artistic, and musical production from majority Arabic-speaking countries.
