ARTICLE I: Name
The name of this organization is “CUNYSciCom”.

ARTICLE II: Group’s mission:
The mission of CUNYSciCom is to empower graduate students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) to focus on effectively communicating their scientific research to their peers within their respective fields, to people outside of their field, and to the public at large. There are three areas within communication that CUNY SciCom focuses on in order to achieve this goal, through visuals, language, and representation. When focusing on visuals, we aim to teach students how to create graphics to effectively showcase their research which are clear and accessible to any kind of audience. Language skills are developed to focus on using phrases that are catered to the audience. And finally, focusing on communicating research to diverse audiences, while we, as an organization, showcase scientists from a wide range of backgrounds to promote representation in STEM. Social Media accounts on Instagram and Twitter have been used to promote events in science communication, promote the work of students involved in science communication at the Graduate Center, and comment on positives and negatives in communication of scientific research.

ARTICLE III: Proposed Events:
An interdisciplinary STEM symposium, promoting and providing resources to support the accessibility of Graduate Center student research.

ARTICLE IV: Membership
Section 1:
Membership is open to any CUNY Graduate Center Student, regardless of race, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or major. Members primarily consist of a multidisciplinary group of doctoral students across biology, earth and environmental science, psychology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and others. Graduate Center students from other disciplines with an interest in STEM and outreach are also strongly encouraged to join.

Executive Body:
CUNYSciCom will consist of the following positions:
Co-Chair for Outreach/Advertisement
Will supervise the following but not limited to:
Social media schedules
Email announcements
Marketing
Co-Chair for Business
Will supervise the following but not limited to:
Organization of budget lines
Purchasing and distribution of payments
Section 3:
Both Co-Chairs will work equally to develop event ideas.

ARTICLE V: Elections
Section 1:
Co-chairs will be selected each June by the currently serving co-chairs if organization membership is under ten people. If membership is over 10 people, a simple majority election will take place to determine the co-chairs of the upcoming academic year.
Section 2:
Potential candidates can be nominated either by themselves or by other group members.

ARTICLE VI: Removal from office
The Chairperson may be removed from office for failure to perform their prescribed duties by a two-thirds vote of the membership.

ARTICLE VII: Meetings
Meetings will be held when deemed necessary by the Chairperson or members.

ARTICLE VIII: Amendments
Amendments to this constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the members present at two consecutive meetings at which the amendment has been read.
